5H and 5M: OUR TASK:
to work as designers, creating new packaging for popular products.
We began by appraising current packaging, looking at how line, shape, colour and texture were used. We each chose a product and designed new packaging, considering the elements of art, as well as text, logos, symbols, images, bar codes and nutritional information tables.
We transferred our designs to nets (the boxes laid out flat), referring frequently to our original designs. Finally, we folded our nets into boxes. We hope you enjoy the results of our work.
Earlier in the year, Year 5 explored Logos. They compared and analysed ‘Leadership’ logos from around the world, looking at shapes, lettering, symbols and slogans.
Each student designed a number of ‘Leadership Logos’ using ideas from this exploration and from class work on qualities of leaders.
Logos were modified, viewed, and appraised with classes finally voting on a logo for their Year 5 Leadership T-shirts.
Students were then involved in screen-printing their t-shirts – with much enthusiasm.
4A and 4B: have been working on a project that integrates knowledge and skills from Technology, Media, Visual Arts and ICT.
With their classroom unit “Space” in mind, classes began by viewing and exploring examples of spacecraft or space costumes.
Students from 4A drew space vehicles from observation of images of space vehicles. They then sketched and designed their own space vehicles.
Using recycled materials they constructed their vehicles. Finally, they painted and decorated them.
Once completed, each student took a photo of their vehicle. We imported them into the computer. Students have started using image editing software, Adobe Photoshop, to edit their images. This has included cropping images, ‘rubbing out’ the hand holding the spaceship when it was photographed, and experimenting with different filters to create interesting effects. They will continue this work throughout the term.
